Sebastián Guzmán

Sebastián is a senior research associate in Vera’s Center on Immigration and Justice, where he works on the project Re-envisioning Protection and Care for Unaccompanied Children through Youth Engagement. Prior to joining Vera, Sebastián held faculty positions at Universidad Andres Bello, West Chester University of Pennsylvania, and SUNY-Purchase, and was visiting scholar at CUNY-The Graduate Center. His research there focused on how people accept or challenge inequalities and has been published in books and articles and funded by numerous grants. He has taught courses on inequality, politics, and activism, with a focus on inequities of race, class, gender, sexuality, and national origin. He also conducted applied research in Chile at an NGO and as a consultant for a nonprofit organization, a union, and a government agency. He received his PhD and MA in sociology from The New School for Social Research and his BA from Universidad Católica de Chile.
