Concern about police shootings of black Americans leads to children’s book.

Raising two black sons prompted former social worker Sanya Whittaker Gragg to write Momma, Did You Hear the News?, a children’s book for black families to guide “the talk” about how to deal with police encounters. The parents in the book teach a five-part acronym (A-L-I-V-E) to help their children remember what to do if approached by an officer, while also emphasizing that not all police officers are bad.Zahara Hill, “New Kids’ Book Helps Parents Approach ‘The Talk’ About Police Brutality,” Huffington Post, April 24, 2017.
